The notation a ≤ b means that a is less than or equal to b (or, equivalently, not greater than b).

The notation a ≥ b means that a is greater than or equal to b (or, equivalently, not smaller than b).

The signs may be found in this on the Desert Island levels when, near the end of the levels, lines of white crystals are scattered about but it is impossible for the player to collect them all without the ghost zooming around consuming most of them.
